Slovakia: Alpine peaks, storybook old towns.
About Slovakia
Slovakia's High Tatras offer some of Central Europe's most accessible high-alpine scenery, while Bratislava's compact old town and castle make for an easy, walkable capital city stop. It's an underrated addition to a wider Central European itinerary alongside the Czech Republic, Austria, or Hungary.

Slovakia has a continental climate with warm summers and cold, snowy winters, particularly in the High Tatras. Spring and autumn are mild and suit sightseeing in Bratislava and other lowland towns. Best time to visit: May to June or September, for mild weather in Bratislava and the High Tatras.
Bratislava's compact center is easily walkable, with trams and buses covering the wider city. Trains connect Bratislava to Vienna (under an hour away) and other regional cities.
Good 4G/5G coverage in Bratislava and other cities, with some weaker signal in mountain regions. Free Wi-Fi is widely available in hotels and cafes.
Slovakia uses the Euro. Cards are widely accepted in cities, though cash is useful in smaller towns and mountain villages.
Slovakia is known for folk textiles, wooden crafts, and local spirits like slivovica. Most shops operate daily, with shorter hours on Sundays.
Slovakia applies a standard VAT rate of 23% on most goods. Non-EU visitors can claim a refund on purchases over 175 EUR from a single store, processed at the airport on departure.

Visa Requirements for Slovakia
For Indian passport holders. Confirm the current rules with the consulate before applying.
Visa Requirement
As a Schengen Area member, Slovakia is covered by the same Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa used across all member states. Citizens of the EU, EEA, and visa-exempt countries such as the US, UK, Canada, and Australia do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days.
However, Indian passport holders must apply for a Schengen Visa before travelling. If Slovakia is the main destination or first point of entry on a multi-country trip, the application should be submitted through Slovakia's consulate or an authorised visa centre.
