Portugal
Portugal: Coastal light, tiled cities, port wine.
About Portugal
Lisbon's hillside trams and pastel-tiled facades, Porto's riverside old town and port wine cellars, and the beaches of the Algarve give Portugal genuine range within a compact, affordable country. It's an easy add-on to a wider Iberian itinerary or a strong standalone destination on its own.

Portugal has a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and mild, wetter winters. The Algarve stays warm well into autumn, making it a good shoulder-season beach destination. Best time to visit: May to June or September to October, extending into November for the Algarve coast.
Lisbon and Porto both have efficient trams, metro, and bus networks, with Lisbon's historic trams doubling as a sightseeing route. Trains connect the two cities and extend south toward the Algarve.
Good 4G/5G coverage in cities and along the coast. Free Wi-Fi is standard in hotels and cafes.
Portugal uses the Euro. Cards are widely accepted in cities and tourist areas, with cash useful for smaller towns and markets.
Portugal is known for hand-painted azulejo tiles, cork products, port wine, and filigree jewelry. Most shops operate Monday to Saturday, with limited Sunday hours.
Portugal applies a standard VAT rate of 23% on most goods. Non-EU visitors can claim a refund on purchases over 50 EUR from a single store, processed at the airport on departure.

Visa Requirements for Portugal
For Indian passport holders. Confirm the current rules with the consulate before applying.
Visa Requirement
As a Schengen Area member, Portugal is covered by the same Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa used across all member states. Citizens of the EU, EEA, and visa-exempt countries such as the US, UK, Canada, and Australia do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days.
However, Indian passport holders must apply for a Schengen Visa before travelling. If Portugal is the main destination or first point of entry on a multi-country trip, the application should be submitted through Portugal's consulate or an authorised visa centre.
