Belgium: Medieval towns, world-class chocolate.
About Belgium
Belgium punches well above its size - Bruges' canals and Gothic squares, Brussels' Grand Place and EU quarter, and Ghent's underrated old town all sit within a couple of hours of each other by train. It's an easy country to weave into a wider Benelux or multi-country European itinerary, known equally for its architecture, beer culture, and chocolate.

Belgium has a mild maritime climate with cool winters and moderate summers. Rain is possible year-round, so it suits travel in any season, though May to September sees the most reliable weather. Best time to visit: May to September, when the weather is mildest and most reliable.
Belgium's rail network is dense and efficient, linking Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, and Antwerp in under an hour each. City centers are compact and walkable, with trams supplementing shorter hops.
Reliable 4G/5G coverage nationwide. Free Wi-Fi is standard in hotels, cafes, and most public spaces in the major cities.
Belgium uses the Euro. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, including small cafes and market stalls.
Belgium is famous for handmade chocolate, lace, diamonds in Antwerp, and beer. Most shops operate Monday to Saturday with reduced hours or closures on Sundays.
Belgium applies a standard VAT rate of 21% on most goods. Non-EU visitors can claim a refund on purchases over 50 EUR from participating stores, processed at the airport on departure.

Visa Requirements for Belgium
For Indian passport holders. Confirm the current rules with the consulate before applying.
Visa Requirement
As a Schengen Area member, Belgium is covered by the same Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa used across all member states. Citizens of the EU, EEA, and visa-exempt countries such as the US, UK, Canada, and Australia do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days.
However, Indian passport holders must apply for a Schengen Visa before travelling. If Belgium is the main destination or first point of entry on a multi-country trip, the application should be submitted through Belgium's consulate or an authorised visa centre.
