Nordkette Cable Car

location_on Innsbruck, Austria schedule 2.5 hours

Overview

Ride from the centre of Innsbruck to the Nordkette ridge, changing from the Hungerburg funicular to two cable car sections as the city drops away beneath you. From the Seegrube and Hafelekar stations you look south over the Inn valley and north into the Karwendel Nature Park.

Highlights

  • Hungerburg funicular: Climb from the old town past the Alpine Zoo to the Hungerburg plateau.
  • Seegrube: The middle station, with a viewing terrace and a restaurant over the city.
  • Hafelekar: The top station, facing the rugged rock walls of the Karwendel.
  • Summit path: An easy 20-minute walk from Hafelekar to the 2,334-metre summit for the full panorama.

Good to know

  • Time on site: About 2½ hours, including the ride up and down.
  • Activity level: Little effort on the lifts, but cold, wind and thinner air at altitude; the summit path needs good shoes.
  • Pairs well with: Swarovski Crystal World.
