location_on Vienna, Austria schedule 1 hours

Overview

Go behind the scenes at the Vienna State Opera, often called the world’s largest repertory theatre, with an English-speaking guide. You walk through the state rooms and auditorium while your guide explains how the house stages a different production almost every night.

Highlights

  • Grand staircase: The tour starts in the foyer and climbs the main staircase.
  • State rooms: The Tea Salon, the Marble Hall, the Schwind Foyer and the Gustav Mahler Hall.
  • Auditorium: Take in the tiers of boxes and galleries and look across to the stage.
  • How it works: Insights into the architecture and the daily running of a working opera house.

Good to know

  • Time on site: About 1 hour, with the guided tour itself lasting around 40 minutes.
  • Activity level: Easy and indoors; mostly standing and level walking, plus the grand staircase.
  • Pairs well with: The Schönbrunn Palace Tour.
